ONE ON ONE COUNSELLING

Many people during their lifetime experience circumstances that either cause them emotional pain or bring them to reflect on how they would like their life to unfold. By providing a collaborative, supportive therapist-client relationship, I can guide you in strengthening coping strategies, attaining problem-solving and interpersonal skills, and developing self-worth. Since each person is impacted differently by life stressors, therapy sessions are customized to suit individual needs.

COUPLES COUNSELLING

Many times, our most intimate and important relationships can be faced with challenges that can lead to disconnect and conflict. This may be due to entering various stages of life, individual crisis/illness, financial hardship, children, family of origin, infidelity, or life transition. By assisting couples to identify their needs/wants, recognize their negative patterns of communication, learn skills of negotiation and validate each other, couples can achieve a more fulfilling relationship. At times, couples will attend counselling to make an already healthy relationship even better or when they are taking their relationship to the next level i.e. engagement, marriage or having children. Therapy can support them through this and help prepare them for their new journey.

FAMILY COUNSELLING

Parents may feel overwhelmed when they are faced with obstacles with their children and may need support. The family system can breakdown when a member is facing a crisis or if new members enter the system for example, a parent re-marrying. Common stressors include: behavioral concerns, mental/medical illness, step-parenting, divorce/separation, adolescent angst, sibling disconnect, and parent-child communication. The family system may need support to strengthen boundaries, clarify roles and balance hierarchy to bring back harmony in the system. Other times, families with adult children may need support to address past negative patterns that are keeping them stuck from having a meaningful relationship. Attending family therapy can be beneficial in addressing concerns that are keeping the system stuck.
